I want to plot a drawing to a raster image so I can insert into other
drawings as a location map. The JPG and PNG formats are too crude for my
liking. I would like to know what other methods would give a good result.

For the absolute best results... Print it to Adobe Acrobat. Then convert it to a Tiff or Jpg.

You can also create a new plotting style in your plotting manager. Choose raster File Formate and choose Tiff and just create the new plotting style. Now depending on what version of Autocad you are using this is where things can be different. With my 2002 if you go into the new plotter style and go to the properties.. You can find a resolution area. Just jack that as high as it can go and your quality will increase.
