Using a tablet for tracing?

    Hi

I've bought a Trust 1200 Tablet for use with AutoSketch as I have a number
of A4 drawings I would like to trace.

I'm struggling to get to grips with it at the moment. The help file isn't
and I'm not clear on the procedure for setting up the tablet with AS 8.#

I can't seem to see what is achieved or required of the registration
    process.

Has anyone else ever used a tablet that could offer me some tips?

    TIA

I haven't done this in awhile and I don't have a tablet setup anymore, but
    here is the basic procedure:

In the lower-right corner of the application on the status bar you should
see an icon inidicating if you are in "mouse" or "tracing" mode. Clicking
(or may double-clicking) will toggle modes. The first time you go into
tracing mode, you have to "register" the tablet -- this tells the computer
how things on the screen correspond to the paper. I don't remember the
exact order, but I believe you click a point on the screen, then click the
corresponding point on the paper you want to trace, then click a second
point on the screen and then a corresponding second point on the paper. The
order might be reversed -- watch the prompts on the status bar at the bottom
of the window to be certain.

Ideally, you want to register using points as far apart as possible, and you
should use snaps to be accurate when registering the screen points. So if
you are tracing a drawing of a lacrosse field, first create a rectangle that
is 180' by 330', start the registration process, snap to the upper left
corner of the rectangle, click on the upper left corner on the paper you are
tracing, snap to the lower-right corner of the rectangle on screen, and
click on the lower-right corner on the paper.

When you are in "tracing' mode, you can only move your mouse within the
tablet area. I think you can use the shortcut Ctrl+T to switch between
tablet and tracing mode (look around on the menus, there is an entry
somewhere that corresponds to this -- maybe under the Draw menu.)

    Good luck!

    Thanks Steve,

I'm getting used to it now, my early problem was with the registration
    procedure.

My problem now is that after years of using a mouse I don't know whether to
pick up my wheel mouse, the wireless mouse that came with the tablet, the
pen or type on the keyboard. <LOL>!

But I'm starting to progress and the tracing mode seems to work out OK. I
just have to figure a way of changing out of tracing mode without having to
go back to the keyboard. I think there are some 'touch' areas on the tablet
that I'll be able to set up for that purpose.
