Switching between Classic and 3D Workspace in 2006

I know there is a simple answer to this, but I have just installed
AutoDesk 2006 and I can't find the menus I want from 2004. The help
file says I can switch to a classic view, but the instructions are for
a different version (Civil??). I just want my old menus back!!!!!!!!
The help file says "click view menu -> menu/toolbar layout" but there
is no "menu/toolbar layout" option. and when I go to "tools ->
customize -> interface" there are no choices to add additional menus or
toolbars, the only features visible are as "default". When I have
looked on other people's computers they have "classic" and "3D" listed
    in the customize options.

I have uninstalled and done a full (as opposed to default)
installation, but still nothing. What is WRONG with producing a help
file that is written for a vworkspace that I can't access??

    Help is appreciated!!!

    Thanks!

When you open the Workspaces toolbar (Command: -toolbar), do you see
    these workspaces?

In the CUI editor, you do not see these workspaces?

Is this vanilla AutoCAD, or AutoCAD Map?
Vanilla AutoCAD or AutoCAD Map on these "other people's computers"?

You can create your own workspace fairly easily. Right click in an empty
toolbar area to access all the loaded toolbars. Turn the ones on that
you want. Do anything else that you want for this workspace, then find
the Workspaces toolbar, click the pull-down, choose "Save As".

If you need to control the position and/or visibility of pull-down's,
then you need to get into the CUI editor.

We are all using AutoCAD Map 2006.

I got our IT guy to sort it out, sorry I can't explain what magic he
performed...copied some kind of system preferences file (template?)
from someone elses computer and stuck it on mine. I don't think it is
an official solution to the problem since there must be something that
can be done without stealing files from other computers, but I've just
about had it, so I can't be bothered to struggle with it anymore....
    <sigh>

    Thanks anyway!

I am on 2004DX (AutoCad + Mechanical Desktop).
I was just thinking of upgrading to 2006, before they start warning that
they are discontinuing support etc. Now you're making me nervous!

  5. You guys should try AutoCAD's panic button, F1, or a book.

I haven't seen 2006 but would be very surprised if the "3d workspace" and
the "classic" one are any different than they have been since 3d came to
AutoCAD. That is to say that there is no such distinction.

I would recommend you bone up on the magic you think your IT guys perform.
The "T" is for technology, which is what most magic is, and you can learn it
from those who know it. For a start, in the help look up:

    VIEW
    DDVIEW
    VPOINT
    DDVPOINT
    UCS
    ELEVATION
