Let's try this this way....Maybe if I give more detail about what I'm trying to accomplish I can get the question answered.

I am creating a SHX file from scratch called RDSimplex.SHX it contains ABC's and 123's. I am also creating a BIGFONT that uses the character ` to create custom sysbols like fractions, CL, NS, FS, Left subscript and Right subscript, etc. Everything is great to this point.

The question, I am seeking an answer for is this.

I need to add the fractions of 32nd's, I want to introduce character symbols for these as I did for the BIGFONT. I want to use a logical technique so I can remember what they are so I want use the Numerator using the %%nnn format to create the symbols I need, but don't know how. Please help.
An example would be: %%1 to return the character 1/32, and %%3 for 3/32, %%5 for 5/32, %%7 = 7/32, etc. I read in the AutoDesk 2002 Customization Manual page 70 (mid way down) that you can use the characters 1 thru 9, 11 thru 31, and 130 thru 255. This tells me that I can do what I was explaining above.

There is a reason to my madness. I am in the process of creating Steel Detailing Program using AutoCAD. I want the ability to change the style of font on the fly like Simplex, Romans, or even a Handlettering style and each character code has to be exactly the same in order to do this.

    Thanks

I had to switch to OE6 in order to view it. I understand how you can change
the font from normal to italic and even bold. What I am talking about is
something different. But thanks for trying. What I want an answer for is
how to use %%1 in my shx. Does it go in my RDSimplex.shx or BIGFONT.shx?
The problem I'm having putting %%1 in my BIGFONT is that is set up with
    escape code of 96.

That's beyond me. I use the "~" character for my escape sequence.

I recall going the same route you are when I first started working with BIGFONTS. I only got the "~" ecscape to work
    for me though. Sorry.

I'm thinking about switching to Mozilla(Firebird) here at work. I use it at home and like it.

I wish there was a matrix available somewhere of what Newsreaders will work with what newsgroups settings!!
