I am feed up with Solidworks! I have been using it since 1995+, and i
miss the simple, build a box, make an assembly, and then a drawing.
now i have to deal with immense BLOAT that SWX has become. the 2008
beta is 2.4 GIGABYTES worth of space! WTF?! using 2007 everyday, I
wonder WHY do I still need to tell SWX that YES it is ok to rebuild?
that YES I don't want to see errors. I still have to WAIT for every GD
rebuild, sure now I can surface and Cosmos and bloatload of other
useless features, but can i do a speedy drawing, NO. Do I still get
crashes, YES. Do I still have to wait for 20+ seconds for it to think
about ANYTHING? I am running a Dell 490, w/ 2 gigs of RAM, and top of
the line video card, and still I HAVE TO WAIT. COME ON SOLIDWORKS, you
still suck! sign up for this, YOU tell us what's wrong, WHY IN THE
WORLD DO I NEED TO WASTE MY TIME WRITING DOWN EVERY G.D. PROBLEM I RUN
INTO. this is your job, that's why we PAY you! make a piece of
software that doesn't suck, that does the job it was designed to do,
BEFORE you start added EXTRA SH!T we DON'T NEED. sure Bob out in Maine
would love to see Solidworks make a snap fit plastic hook, why make
    that a feature? that's a add-on, it's shouldn't be in a menu list,
until I TURN IT ON! give me extrude, cut, and sweep, and revolve, and
I can make 95% of the parts I make everyday! lose the bloat, or give
me the ability to shut it off, and not screw up the rest of the
software. and while you are at it, how about making the Drawing
package work for once? it has always sucked and still sucks. oh wow, i
can spell check my notes, BFD! it's still slow, full of bugs, and full
    of useless crap.

I am on the hunt for new CAD software, and I won't be looking to a
Windows based bloatware either. Solidworks better clean up it's crap,
because you will be replaced by the new kid on the block, just like
you were in 1995. CLEAN UP THE CODE, LOSE THE FOO FOO FEATURES, and
    GET A CLUE.

Ah it won't happen sorry. They arent interested in quality or you. $
and growth and 9 monthly churn come first.
I am curious to know why you would wait until now to complain though?

I suspect a lot of that extra in the 2.4gb is from realview which you
might be able to leave out of the install if it bothers you?
Disk space is cheap nowadays though..get yourself a nice shiny 1T
    drive...almost as fast as a Raptor..and cheaper/byte ;o)
If you are testing SW08 you have nothing to say about the new toolbar
    arrangement?...
A lot of people are not enthusiastic about realview it seems..but I
think most of the update work is done now so I think you will see a
return to the enhancements being for the tools etc in the next release
I agree though if you cull the shiny stuff there isnt a lot of useful
new features in 08. A point thinly disguised on their site in the
press info pics with numerous repeats of the same things
Really a lot of folk have got upset about this 'enhancement' but its
only like a progression from mono to 7.1 Dolby or from 640x480 to
    1920x1200.

BTW If I only had extrude cut and sweep and revolve I would make
something akin to the Wright bros first plane or a Flinstones car but
    I take your point.
hmmm how about Alibre then? (dont know you will find much non Windows
    stuff...)

I suggest reverting to SWks 2001+ or 2005 or something and tolerating
a low cost 3D CAD package you already know, as opposed to buying into
another $5-20k worth of software, and then finding out it has probably
nearly as many if not more headaches.

Well, look whose taking smack. You won't be looking for Windows
Bloatware? Bold, my man, Bold. Let us know what you find. I think you've
just put yourself squarely in the Staples bargain bin software. Surely
you can get a Linux CAD software for free that does everything you need
it to do and nothing else. Oh, and is also free from quirks...

Here's a link with loads of help...

Let's see, you can go all out and get TurboCAD Deluxe yet for about $90
or cut corners and get DesignCAD for $8.00 (plus tax). I'd guess you're
    a corner cutter.

Whose the idiot? Go out and spend $4000 to extrude blocks and cut round
holes? And then complain about it 12 years after the fact? (By the way,
meatball, there was no such release as 95+).

Dude, I hope you and I bid on the same work. I love to bid against
people who blame their problems on their tools. Enjoy life on ramen noodles.

VX runs on Windows but it's more stable than SolidWorks.

    www.vx.com

Most cadcam companies are afraid to go head to head with SolidWorks. I
doubt you will see anyone replace SolidWorks.

How to be happy with SW.

    1. Always run a release behind and only install the last SP.
2a. Turn off the menu items that you don't want. (It's a new feature.)
2b. Drag the icons into sketcher and feature toolbars that you always
use but never made it there.
    3. Loose the RealView graphics, don't install.
    4. Turning in bugs has an ROI of about zero. Don't do it unless bored.
    5. Set graphics to the fastest (lowest quality) settings when doing
    modeling.
    6. Use your head instead of the CPU. No insult intended, SW just runs
better if you try to picture what it is doing on the inside. You are
not supposed to need to do this, but it sure helps.
    7. When in assemblies, use the super-rebuild macro often.
    8. Spaceballs make working assemblies tolerable.
    9. Use the Alt mate alot.
    10. Keep a copy of your options handy on the desktop for when SW
    forgets.

"How to be happy with SW."

I find it hard to believe anyone could be happy with how the
SolidWorks Feature Manager displays relationships no matter what
version of SolidWorks you use. This especially holds true when you're
    working with someone else's design.

I can think of no other area in SolidWorks that needs more improvement
than finding a better way to show how a model / assembly is put
    together

SW is a CAD program, not a CAD/CAM or CAM program.
Not that you know one from the other.
