    Sriram,
That question is a bit short. What is you motivation ? Do you want to
shrink the symbol itself or the instance of a symbol ?

    Fogh,

I want to shrink/magnify symbol instances in schematic. Let me put in
detail what I want to do.
Convert designs from one pdk to another. The sizes of the symbols in
the old pdk are bigger than the symbol sizes in the new pdk. Therfore I
want to replace the old symbols with the new ones and magnify them to
preserve the connectivity. Alternatively I would also like to shrink
the size of the symbols and then replace them with the new symbols.

    Thanks,
    Sriram

  4. Well, one approach is to use the "magnification" factor on an instance, but I'd
strongly recommend you don't use this, as it's not there in the OpenAccess
database going forward - which will present a migration problem for you in the
    future.

Best is to produce a scaled version of the symbols. You can use the "scale"
executable to do that (or xscale if you're using an OA-based version of the
    tools).

    Best Regards,

    Andrew.

    Andrew,
Will use scale/xscale. However I am curious to know
the difference between magnification and scaling since xscale uses
magnification as one of the arguments.

  6. In CDB, instances had a magnification, orientation, and xy location. In OA, they
only have orientation and xy. So it was an attribute of an instance before -
    which was usually 1.

scale (for CDB) and xscale (for OA) work by changing all the coordinates in the
database by a particular scaling or magnification factor. The magnification
argument is not the same as the magnification instance attribute - it just
happens to use the same word to describe it...

    Andrew.
