Seeking a way to keep track of code in highly customized autocad?

Other than pure sweat... what are some way, means, methods to keep track of all the code in a highly customized autocad engineering dept.?

subjects include:

Release and revision levels
Coordination issues (keeping stand-a-lone customization coordinated with networked customization) so that a laptop or 'home' computer can be using all the same code.

There are other ways, but here's what I do. I created a vb app that copies files from a network folder to the local cad folders. I place all my code in the network folder. I then created a db that tracks the software revisions and when the users have updated. Then I created a vba subroutine that autoruns at startup and checks the db to see if they are up to date. If not they are prompted to download, which is handled automatically by the vb app. I could do this silently, but I wanted users to know what was going on so they can keep up on updates and learn about new features.

If your client OS is Win2k or above, the coordination issue (for portables) is moot if you use the Offline files feature.

It is very simple. With the portable connected to the network, browse to the folder you want offline. Right-click on the folder and select Make Available Offline. You have the option of making any subfolders offline too.

When you have disconnected from the network, browse to the network (yes,
*network*) location, and the files are still there. (Granted, the OS has hidden copies of the files on the local HD, but to the user they are still in the original location.) Syncing is automatic, and warns you if both files are changed.

Using this feature is there capability for the portable to edit the files once disconnected ?... then when the connection to the network is made again do the files get updated automatically ? or can limits be set - don't update, update only certain files? (In my case... I don't want the portable to be able to make edits.)

Yes, edits can be made offline.

However, if the network folder is RO, then the sync will not occur. In fact, the user needs to get the wise net admin to clear the incorrectly modified local files, which leads to severe questioning from said network admin.
