    Dear all,

Does anyone have any clues how to vectorise a scanned image?

    cheers

    Ian ...
Either you digitise manually over the raster data, or purchase some
    raster-to-vector conversion software.

While the latter approach sounds labour-saving, in practise (unless the
raster data is exceptionally clear) the software requires significant human
guidance when it comes to resolving ambiguous crossings, gaps, and
    overshoots.

    Ian,

http://www.algolab.com I downloaded a trial version and it worked fine
for the project that I used it on.

    Hi Ian
Find a Free version of Wintopo on:
    http://www.wburrows.demon.co.uk/softsoft/

It can only read BMP files, and export one color vector files (dxf)
    but it works just fine.

You can also find the Pro version of Wintopo, and that gives you
(that's what they say, I haven't checked though) the ability to load
tiff and jpeg files and export to colour vectors.
    All

    can I ask why vectorise?
Why not just make a hybrid file.

thanks for all your help guys, I will try out the various pieces of
    software.
A work colleague also put me on to a utility called "scan2cad"
    (www.softcover.com) which also looks interesting.

    cheers
