RTEXT Justification (ah, the good old days)

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by Martin Schmid, Feb 5, 2004.

  1. We name our layout tabs according to the drawing 'number'.. In Acad2000 we
used a beta/demo version of RTEXT that allowed justification. The RTEXT
would be in the sheet title block (xref) to reflect the text in the tab, and
we have a drawing title block i.e., that identifies drawing number, name,
scale... see attached... in both cases, the E3.2 is RTEXT that reflects the
    name of the 'Layout'.

Note, however, in ADT2004, that the text is no longer middle justified... in
both locations the E3.2 in the drawing is left justified. Since the RTEXT
is in a block/xref, it can't be manually moved... besides, the whole reason
for using RTEXT and blocks, etc., was to reduce the number of steps and
increase standardization/coordination... now the capability appears to be
    lost.

Is there an alternate solution for ADT2004? I'm looking into ltext... but
may opt to create my own.

I was just looking for an RTEXT justification option.
They actually had that in an old build!?
I can't imagine why they would remove that.
Looking foward to seeing a release from you.

  3. Please tell me the latest rtext.arx allows justification change.
That was a special compile before but it must be standard now right?

  4. No.. .the latest does not allow justification change...

I could tell you that... but I would be lying..

    You'd think....

  5. What specific functionality do you need? All I need is interpretation of a
simple DIESEL expression... i.e., namely of the format $(getvar,<varname>).

dwgprefix dwgname date user etc etc. Yes I could use a block and a lisp
routine with diesel expressions to update the block, but RTEXT updates
    automatically. That's what I want...

  7. You can continue to use RTEXT as long as you don't require justification
other than bottom left.... anyway, I'm working on a solution....

    Thanks,

Ideally, I would prefer right justification with Rtext.
    Good luck with it.

no, here is the real story
frank used to head up the express tool development at autodesk.
after the 2000 version of the express tools he made a beta that allowed
for more justification options. It was ofcourse an arx that only runs in
2000, 2000i or 2002 products. Then he was let go by autodesk. Someone
at autodesk recomplied the last version of the express tools for 2004 duty.
So someone at autodesk must has the source code for the beta version
of rtext. The person that complied the 2004 is unknown. The person who
has the source code needs to be tracked down.

yup, its really a loss for all of us customers. I emailed frank a while back
but he didn't know where that beta source code was. Do you have any
ideas on how we can get ahold of a 2004 beta rtext? Who can we
    contact?

  12. AutoCAD 2005 will provide Fields which can be added to any text/attribute
object, and basically replaces RText (with a few limitations). There are
many neat things that Fields will let you do. See the next issue of
    AUGIWorld for more details.

thats nice, but what about a solution today. One more reason to stay with 2002
products and not upgrade to 2004. Things like a plot stamp should work.

What kind of reasoning is that? Don't upgrade *because* the newest version
_will_ do what you want it to do? Or am I mis-reading your post? %^|

  16. I think he is indicating that he is able to use RTEXT as he wants in 2002,
but it won't work as he wants in 2004... so why upgrade to a cripled
verision if you rely on that feature.

yes. That is one reason for delaying upgrading to 2004. Now that 2005 is
almost out we are going to skip 2004 entirely eventhough we bought some
seats of it. 2005 is really going to depend on the LDD parts though. At any
rate upgrade time does not come till december for my company so I should
be rolling out LDD 2005 about a month or two before 2006 arives.

    good times!!
