I am trying to find out about entering the field of drafting and the
educational requirements. I currently have an Associate of Applied Science
Degree in the field of broadcast technology....this field did not provide
the financial support for survival. I am considering going back to school
for a Computer Aided Drafting Certificate. My question....Will it be
possible to enter the field with just a Career Development Certificate (27
Credit Hours) and still make a descent wage. I consider a descent wage to
be between $13.00 and $15.00 an hour. Any information regarding this
subject would be greatly appreciated. I would like to make an informed
    decision about entering an occupation.

As far as wages go it depends on what the area you live in and the
field of drafting you go into will sustain. I will only hire
applicants with an AA and those i will only hire from ITT Technical
Institute. I would only start you out at probably $10.00 an hr but you
can only go up from there. If you have any further questions feel free
    to email me at

    Thanks.

I think it is much more likely that you will start out lower than that, but
if you are good, learn from your mistakes and can follow instructions well,
you will quickly rise to the top. There are a lot of draftsmen that go
through the AA program and still don't have the intelligence to SEE what
they are drawing, so they never get really good. I think if you enroll in a
AA program at ITT or even a junior college (where are you located?) you
might be more likely to get an internship at an office and then work your
way up from there....and keep going to school throughout!
