I was hoping someone here could help with this issue. ARCHITXT.SHX is a 3rd party font that has a file date of 1991.
All I know is that its old and does not always work. For some reason after a while autocad 2002 & 2005 will display the
ARCHITXT.SHX font in simplex. I cannot reproduce the problem but have seen it often. The user will complain that the
text is not displaying properly and I will look at his machine and its true. The FONTALT is set to ARCHITXT.SHX. Any
    ideas?

does this only happen with MTEXT (not TEXT or ATTRIB entities) ?
that sounds familiar, its a problem with autocad not the font. we just deal
    with it.
in the mtext editor, select all, then right click and select Remove
    formatting
