problem with properties window

    anybody out there with a similar problem?
    when the properties dialog box is open, the properties of selected
    objects appear as usual. but when i press "Esc" to clear the selection,
    the system hangs for about a second (cursor stops ...) until the dialog
    box is up and running again. (autocad 2004; the problem occurs only on 1
    pc, the other autocad installations show no such behaviour). it does not
    matter how many objects are (de-)selected.

    any hints are appreciated,
