Problem with off set

    Hi all,
    Could you help, I'm at a loss to solve a problem. I've got autocad 19. When I try to use the off set tool, it does as asked. But when I try to use the modify tools on the object, I get the message

    Wrong option selection. The two segments belong
    to different work planes.

    Can anyone help to remedy this so I can continue to use the off set function.
