Plotting problems with pc3 plotters and Arial Fonts

I have recently come across this problem where by we have a batch of
drawings that will not print using the AutoCAD pc3 printer (HP Laser Jet)

When observing the print queue, I see that when printing a drawing using the
pc3 printer, the job size is around 6-7mb ! When I print the same drawing
through a windows printer from AutoCAD, it prints fine and the job in the
    queue is around 200kb !

I am right in presuming that it is rasterising the Arial font (this is the
only difference between drawings that I dont have problems printing, and the
ones I do!) and thus creating a much larger print job....

How can I get round this without changing the font on the drawing and still
using the pc3 print device ???

    Thanks in advance

    Dean,

    Its using a HDI driver on AutoCAD 2002 / Win2000 sp4..

I have just done a test by using a control file on a windows printer and
that seems to work fine !

What is the diference in using the two approaches ???

    Cheers
