Plot to file default location registry location doesn't work in LDD4 (AutoCad 2004)

  1. OK I've spent about an hour on this and I cannot figure it out.

The subject is: AutoCAD and the plot to file default location.

Just Got AutoCad 2004 (AutoDesk Civil Series 2004, aka AutoDesk Land Desktop
2004) I have had to fix this before w/ LDD3 (AutoCad 2002) and it worked
back then. In fact it still works in LDD3 which I still have loaded.

I've followed Dean's advice that he gave to Jim Nelson on 9/10/03 at 6:05 am
in this group. Namely, that to get the plot to file default location to
default to the DWG location you must clear the "PlotToFileBrowseDir" data in
    the registry under
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Autodesk\\AutoCAD\\R16.0\\ACAD-218:409\\Profile
    s\\Land Desktop\\Dialogs\\Plot" key

I've cleared it and cleared it. Every location of it as a matter of fact
and still it defaults to the last plot file path. I have also messed with
"rememberfolders" and this doesn't seem to affect it either way.

I've also tried clearing all the "location<#>" string values too. This
    don't work neither.

I'm beginning to think this is a "feature" in AC2004, but, what do I know?

Any help appreciated. <<heck, even pity'd be appreciated at this point>>

    Jim.

Jim, I have installed & reinstalled AutoCad 2004 at least 5 times in the last day and I have the same problem as you. This problem also exists in 2002 but doesn't occur until you browse and change the plot file location. 2004 does this right out of the box. It is more than a minor inconvenience to those of us who must plot to a file. If someone out there has a reliable fix, could you please share it. Until then, I am seriously thinking of staying with 2002.

p.s. - it has nothing to do with REMEMBERFOLDERS

  3. Jon,

Yes, I have just today confirmed this "feature" with two other separate
sources. I'm sure AutoDesk will offer a patch soon <<right?>>. It's a pain
but if I pick a simple directory for the first plot and then put a shortcut
to it on my desktop I guess I can live with it for a "little while".

And as to staying with 2002... welllll... let's not get hasty now. There
are lots of other reasons to go to 2004, speed not the least of which. It
is otherwise far and away one of the more decent upgrades I've ever done
    with AutoCad.

Jim - I was hoping that MAYBE someone from Autodesk was listening (I'm not always sure of this). My short experience with 2004 has been favorable with the exception of this plotting thing. It will definately effect production since we now have to be more deliberate.

  5. Jon- Just got word from my supplier that this is indeed known by AutoDesk.
The question remains however whether they believe this "Feature" is
something they ought to fix. <<AutoDesk???...any comments?>>

  7. Add my name to the listening to the deafening silence list..... Autodesk,
why won't you respond about your "feature"?

It is affecting my production as well. I make lots of plot files and HATE
    browsing with a passion.
