    ok.

I am a graduate student at the university of florida. I am currently
taking a vlsi design course. Most of the learning through cadence is
done on your own, so a lot of the less basic things I've had to learn
by myself. I've been trying to tinker with layout XL and a really
    annoying thing happens:

when I create an instance from the schematic in any way virtuoso will
place the item off of the grid. i.e. lets say I made an inverter in
schematic view and then opened layout XL and tried to place something
from the schematic to the layout it place it. However, when it is time
to create paths or do any routing of any kind; the paths don't match
up. Further if all I do is place an object and run DRC, I will get all
kinds of such and such is not on the grid errors.

The only thing I can think of on the client side is the snap to grid
setting. We are using TSMC 240 nm technology (03deep) and I have x and
y snap spacing set to 1/2 lambda (.06 u) I have finished my first
project (an sram) using plain old layout xl. But I would like to be
able to use layout xl for more complicated designs in the future.

  2. May be just you can try this it should help you out
    go layout window
    go to options
    select display
change X snap spacing and Y snap spacing
these are the grid points on which it will try to align
