I just got a Dell 360 with nvidia Quadro FX500 and it will not recognize the
    second monitor at all!!!!
Each output for the card will drive each monitor when connected solo so
each output works and so do the monitors. Dell has offered to credit me for
the nvidia towards a new graphics card. Anyone using the ATI cards which are
    provided by dell?
Any recommendations for cards in the $200-$300 range?

  2. Hi,

I don't have experience with this particular card, but common thing for nVidia hardware
is that the second monitor (for DUAL monitor setup) has to be activated in driver.

One way of doing it is via nView tab in the Advanced settings of driver.

BTW, make sure you have the latest drivers (or at least one of the latest).

Been to advanced settings many times....if I unplug a monitor that is not
being recognized and then plug it in again I can go into advanced settings
and get the card to operate in clone mode...so at that point the hardware is
all working pointing to a software problem. I'm going to take my computer
to work tomorrow and try some newer monitors. Mine are 6-7 years old

  4. If plugging-unplugging monitors make a difference, they are simply
    incorrectly recognized.

There is an obscure place for a driver called "monitor". If there isn't any,
it defaults to whatever Windows guesses, and it may be a wrong guess...
Not likely that you find a driver for them.

    Good luck,

I took the computer to work today and tried a pair of new monitors, guess
what......works fine with plug & plays or with an old one and a new one
(plug & play). So I guess I need to buy one new one...I did load some
drivers from the viewsonic website but it did not help. The default monitor
is now seen as a plug & play but it still will not see the other "default
    monitor"

Have you checked the monitor cables? You could just have a bad
connection on the pins that carry the Plug 'n Play information, even
though the video connection is fine.

I got my second monitor working by using one of my old matrox millenium
cards (pci). The nice part is that winxp pulled up its own driver for the
matrox card and still used the nvidia drivers for the nvidia card. On my
old machine with win98, the system would use microsoft drivers ok but would
not allow the matrox provided drivers to be used. I didn't want to lose the
openGL on the nvidia drivers so I saved the matrox card as the last resort.
As it turns out xp pulls thru.... I was able to get some drivers from
    viewsonic for the monitors
The nvidia drivers do a nice job of allowing a rendered solid model of a 6
door cabinet (with back panels an shelves) to spin like a top!!
