  2. I would like to sincerely thank everyone for expressing
their opinion on this topic and especially Anne for (A)
not pulling this conversation and (B) for forwarding on
our posts to the sea monkeys, oops, survey monkeys.

I'd also like to thank the pro web siders for coming out
and stating their side. One thing I do wish to clarify
is that I was not suggesting removal of the web side; oh
    contraire:

    <snip>
I recognize there needs to be a web web side, for presence
and those poor sots that don't have news readers ...
    <snip>

And I'd add that has been occasion when I needed to view
the web side, i.e. at client's location, no time to set
    up a news reader ...

    Thanks again all,

    Michael.

Remarks in this message group and the one in ACAD 2005 have been gathered and passed to the team performing the survey. <<

    Thank you, Anne.

  5. Indeed.

I'm also using the FireFox web browser 99% of the
time (like when I'm NOT doing a Windows Update).

First, I agree with Michael. Loss of nntp would greatly limit my use of
this group. One of the reasons, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, would
be the loss of the ability to Google the group. I've given up on searching
the groups with my newsreader because there is too much content for which I
only have headers. Google Groups gives me access to all of this
    information.

    My two cents.

agreed. please do not remove news reader access. if i had known this was a
possibility, i would have voiced my concern in the survey. web access is too
    much of a hassle.

If I felt I had participated in a survey and felt I
wasn't quite apprised of all the issues that may impact
or influence my response(s), I might be motivated to do
    the survey over again.

self, maybe you should do that survey again. now that news reader access may
be in jeopardy, i think some of my comments would be different. i am
    concerned... and quite motivated...

I've taken enough surveys from Adesk that I can often read between the
lines and respond accordingly. Of course my reading between the lines
could be wrong which then degrades the quality of the survey responses
so if they just told you what they were thinking and what was prompting
the questions (if anything) it would be a lot easier.....then again, I'm
sure some would complain just at some of the ideas that were spit balled
around even though they may or may not ever be considered seriously....

Although I must say I've not tried both sides of the coin, that much, I
    prefer this side.

My previous 2 cents would support this method of joining the newsgroup,
    through the 'acad.mnu' of coarse.

    Hello Anne, Shaan, et al,

Even on the days when Outlook Express crashes 12 times, and our pipeline to
the world is filled with FTP'd files, and our HQ is sending out Microsoft
Updates to all users, and our virus software is uploading pattern updates...

....even then, NNTP is on the order of 5 times as fast as the web-based
groups. It's so much faster that I would do NNTP from home over my 28.8
connection, if my workplace allowed web-based only.

    Thanks,

    Shawn

    ....<snip>...
It has been suggested that there *MAY* be a move within
the Autodesk camp to eliminate the nntp based newsgroups
and instead develop and pour even MORE funds into the
    <cough> web hosted newgroups.

As an aside, but related note......as of 9:50 a.m. PDT 4/28/04 there are 35
messages showing in this thread on the Web side, yet in my OE6 only 24 are
showing. One of the 'missing' posts is one I made last night around 11:30. I
have never seen a post made on the nntp side not show up there as well,
    until now.....

Scratching head, mumbling to self.....hmmmm.....and I just got done filling
    out the survey

    Jeff,

I'm in OE6, and I appreciated (and still see) your post of 4/27/2004, at
    11:22 P.M. I show 38 posts now, of an expected 300 posts. :)

Agreed - I used the web based interface first and then tried the nntp -
there is no way I would go back. The web based interface is nearly useless
