I want to use 2008 autoCAD solely for 2 things:

    1. 2D Electrical Single Line diagrams (schematics) for facility power
distribution (transformers, cable, circuit breakers, panels, etc.)
    2. 2D panel schedules for electrical dist panels.

What add-ons are needed (or beneficial), if any, for these tasks?

What about this add-on, is another better/cheaper and similar?

    $425

    Thanks in advance.

You do not really need anything. You can draw a symbol once extract it from
your drawing and add it to a library as you go. Or you can by a library of
ready made symbols that you may or may not like.

although a proficient cad person could do that, what i really want is not to
become very proficient in cad - i don't have the need or too much time - i
want to learn to just do fairly simple 2D single line electrical schematics,
single layer, already made symbols to just pick from a list....

where could i buy an inexpensive package of elec symbols?

    regards,
