    Hi everyone,

I have an old Outlook PST file containing several years of emails that I'd like to open in Thunderbird. My main concern is keeping the original folder structure, attachments, and email formatting intact during the migration.

While searching for solutions, I came across Advik PST File Converter and also found this guide that explains the process: https://www.adviksoft.com/blog/open-pst-file-in-thunderbird-with-attachments/. It looks straightforward, but I'd prefer to hear from someone who's actually used it before making a decision.

Has anyone here tried Advik PST File Converter or used another method to move PST emails to Thunderbird? I'd appreciate any suggestions or real-world experiences.

Thunderbird cannot import PST files directly because PST is Microsoft's proprietary mailbox format. If your mailbox is small and Outlook is still installed, you can sometimes use intermediate methods, but they usually involve multiple steps and don't always preserve folders or attachments correctly.

If you want a cleaner migration, using a dedicated Outlook to Thunderbird migration tool is usually the easier option. I recently helped migrate a fairly large Outlook archive, and the software that worked well was Softaken Outlook to Thunderbird Converter. It exported the mailbox to Thunderbird-compatible MBOX files while keeping folders, attachments, email formatting, and metadata intact. One thing I liked was that it also let me preview the mailbox before starting the conversion and didn't require Outlook to be installed on the system.

If your PST file is large, password protected, or contains years of archived emails, a dedicated converter can save a lot of time compared to manual work.

Before migrating, it's also a good idea to back up your original PST file so you always have a safe copy if you need it later.
