ok, first off i don't use the pop-up windows for my snap points.

    now the task at hand..

when you you a command like "line".. you can type in nea to select the
"nearest" point of an object. that is all well and good, but I want to
make it faster. I want to be able to type in "n" rather than "nea"..
    can it be done?

  2. Why don't you remap some of the function keys to use osnap overrides? <F4>
    is our Nea, for instance.

the next best thing is to use the cursor menu (shortcut menu)

your request involves pressing the 'N' key then 'Enter'. that is two
    keystrokes

assuming you have the standard menu installed, with two keystrokes and a
right-click you can issue any osnap override

    at the prompt,
    Specify first point:
you hold 'Ctrl" or 'Shift' and right-click, then press the underlined letter
    ('R' for Nearest)
eventually you'll be doing it in your sleep

  5. I agree with R.R.B.
Mapping shortcuts to function keys is way less keystrokes.
If you save 2 keystrokes (at 1 second each keystroke), 50 times a day, for
200 days you save approximately 5.5 Man-Hours of work per year!
If there are NOT enough function keys, you can add Ctrl-F#, Alt-F#, Shift-F#
or have function keys that remap the function keys.

  8. You could also do it this way. I find it very quick and easy.

    ***ACCELERATORS
    [CONTROL+"E"]_ENDP
    [CONTROL+"C"]_CEN
    [CONTROL+"Q"]_QUA
    [CONTROL+"S"]_INS
    [CONTROL+"D"]_MID
    [CONTROL+"R"]_PER
    [CONTROL+"N"]_NEAR
    [CONTROL+"T"]_INT
    [CONTROL+"Z"]_NODE

I make use of all these tools but for my snaps I take advantage My
AnyKey2000 programmable keyboard. Look for this on Ebay. The pictures of
the keyboard will tell you more than I can ever explain. You fellow lispers
will also find this very handy when creating programs. You can program any
key to have any keystroke and you get 12 extra function keys up the right
side of the keyboard that can be programmed for anything.
