Monochrome plotting in 2004

    In certain AutoCAD 2004 files, I can neither preview nor plot when I select monochrome.ctb or .stb. Xref-ing these drawings to a new drawing file allows me to preview and plot. Any ideas as to what is the problem with the existing files?
