Mirrored feature

I've got a sketch used as a projected curve, projected on an extruded
surface. I've mirrored the project feature about a datum plane. This
plane is normal to the sketching plane for the extruded surface, so
the mirrored projected curve lies on the same surface as the original.

I want to make the mirrored project feature independant of the
original. If you copy and paste something it's easy and I swear I
could do it in 2001 and earlier with mirrored features. When I edit
definition for the mirror there's a box under "options" I can uncheck
that says "copy as dependent". If I uncheck it it stays dependent, and
next time I redefine the mirror feature it is checked again. Does
anyone now how the f**k to make it independent?

They've changed this functionality 2 or 3 times since 2001 and the changes relate to how the sketch is treated, whether as internal or external/copied. So, you may have to go back to the sketch and make sure that is also independent or capable of being made independent. If you can't modify the sketch independently, chances are slim to none that you can make the mirrored feature independent of the original. But, you might try making the original with an internal sketch and do the projecting at the time of feature creation. This ability exists in WF3, don't know about earlier.

  3. I keep a file called old_part, and i keep features form earlier
versions(that are no longer available) that i like to use in it.
anytime i want to use these again i can open up the file and copy them
directly into the part i'm working with. a copy of the file is kept in
    our template for new projects

    Cheers
