Does anyone know how to diable the zoom extents feature associated
with double-clicking the mouse wheel? A colleague's mouse is proving a
    bit temperamental in this respect.

Unfortunately, that disables the "click and pan" feature also.

then I think their only option is: don't double click...

She isn't. The mouse is just misinterpreting wheel jogs. Anyway, new
mouse, problem solved. Incidentally, I looked around and I don't think
there is a way of disabling this functionality alone. It's an 'all or
    nothing' kind of thing.

that's what I think also. I use a Logitech Revolution and played around
with the middle button settings in the mouseware and if the double click
zoom extents functionality was removed so was the ability to wheel zoom.

btw, what is a "wheel jog"?
