Could somebody clarify the correct way of reserving licenses in my opt file.

We have 15 licenses on our system. Of these 15, 10 are to be reserved for permanent CAD users. The other 5 are floating for casual users.

I have specified a GROUP called PERMANENT with the log-on names of the 10 permanent users.

The question is, am I supposed to set the RESERVE to 1 or 10? If I set it to 1, will it reserve only 1 license to the group or 1 license per user?

The reason I ask is that I set it to 10 and some members of the permanent group were unable to get licenses. I have dropped it to 1 and everybody is happy at the moment but I want to clarify exactly what the syntax is supposed to be.

    RESERVE 1 43200ARCHDESK_2004_0F GROUP PERMANENT

  2. The "@machine" is normal. When you define the group be sure that you are
using the exact same case as you see in the log file for each user.

    appear in the following format:
seeing the username with @machine appended to the end rather than just
    username?
this isn't the reason then my original question still stands...

I have been pretty diligent on my spellings and capitalisation. I have even
copied and pasted from the debug.log into my options file but that didn't
    help.

  4. Please post the syntax you are using to define the group (disguise your user
    names for security)

Any idea why when we went to Active Directory, we started seeing the
case that the user typed at logon instead of the case as initially
defined in the NT4 domain controller and now AD? It's annoying having
    to maintain several cases.

Syntax used is as follows (names changed to protect the innocent)

    GROUP PERMANENT user1 user2 user3 user4 user5 user6 user7 user8 user9 user10
    RESERVE 10 43200ARCHDESK_2004_0F GROUP PERMANENT

I think I may have resolved this now. I have now set the GROUPCASEINSENSITIVE variable to ON and things seem to be working properly now. I guess it must be down to the way the user accounts were originally set-up. There seems to have been a mixture of case usage when the usernames were created with kind of uniformity so by changing this variable, I appear to have covered all available connotations.

Oh dear. Well it looks like I haven't resolved my problem at all. I have this morning taken calls from a number of irrate users around the branch wanting to know why they can't access licenses.

I have now had to take out all reservations as these seemed to be just holding back licenses and not issuing any at all. I thought the case sensitivity was the key to it all but noticed the first problems were occuring on a HOST_GROUP. I know the definite case of these so typed this in exactly but could still not get licenses released.

Reading the FlexLM user guide, there is mention of the FLEXLM_GROUPCASEINSENSITIVE environment variable but that is all - a mention and no description of what this is about.

I am now in a position where we have a large number of people accessing licenses that should not be available to them and meaning that people I should be able to guarantee a license are fighting with everybody else.

I thought FlexLM was going to the answer to all my problems I had had in the past with dongles, but it appears that the problems have just morphed into something else.

Can anybody shed any light on the whole reservation issue - either those who have set it up with no problems or those who have encountered issues but managed to resolve them. Searching the NGs, there are a few threads but all just seem to tail off with no resolution.

    Any help greatly appreciated.
