Anne, this was somehow sent directly to me from the newsgroup?

I tried to send this directly to you but got an automated response
saying to post it in the newsgroup.

    Len -

Unfortunately there are those who come into discussion groups
everywhere and harvest email addresses. There is nothing we can
do to prevent this. Many discussion group users "mung" there
email address in hopes of foiling the spammers. Yours could be
    for example.

You can send feedback to the discussion moderators at

    Anne,

I've been posting to this and other ADSK groups for 9 years or so with no munged
addy and have as yet not received any spam - at least I think so. I use (the
dreaded) Mozilla as a newsgroup reader which has been "trained" to recognize email
spam and it generally ends up in a junk folder which I delete wholesale without
    opening (after perusing the sender).

Many times people on these groups ask that bits and pieces be sent to them
directly, and it's so much easier to do that if addys aren't munged. But if people
need to munge they can try:

or some such f'rinstance, which is more unrecognizable for spammers. That is, take
    out Chinese food to reply.

Some folks use bizarre email addys and have siggies with their addys at the bottom
    shown as

    lenrafuseatwndotnet

to use len as an example.

Others go to the extreme of spelling everything backwards.

    esufarnelatnwdotten

    Nice, eh?

Of course the reason I get no spam is that maybe by this time they all know I'm a
total loser and would never reply or acknowledge so they don't bother anymore.

    Yeah right.

    NEXT!

What really concerned me was that it said it was from the newsgroup.
But I guess spammers can spoof that.

I have posted here and in a few other forums for years without getting
    junk mail.

About the first of the year the junk mail started and just keeps coming
My junk filter catches about half of it. The other half I delete manually.

Not only can spammers spoof the name they can spoof the sending
point also. I also rarely get spam mail since I use aggressive
Symantec Pro and Zone Alarm products plus my ISP is pretty
    vigilant.

And no Harvey, I doubt people write off your posts as senility
<--- big grin intented. After all we're probably aging well
together and no one thinks we're over the hill - Right?

Now just a goldang minute! Where did I say anything about senility, Whatsyourname?
What I said is that spammers think I'm a total loser, not a geriatric gerbil.

Of course it's not clear to me that there's much difference.

What were we talking about, anyway? ,,,
