Is there a way to create an online database and keep my xrefs and write
    protection in tact?

I presently have a peer to peer network and keep all my files on a server.
As a result, everyone in my company has access to the same fies (versus each
user keeping files on their own pc)

When I xref drawings into other drawings, I specify the specific location on
my server and everything works great. Its also nice because whomever is
using a file can make changes but anyone else that opens the file can only
    open it as "read only".

I would like to do the same thing but keep all my files on an online
    database.

Is this possible? If so, how?

Also, will it still allow only one person at a time the write priviledges?

Will performance slow down too much to make this efffort worthless?

Will my xrefs stay in tact?

    Thanks
