i'm confused... pro/detail: visibility and layers

Hi,

it is said that model items that are included in a drawing layer
overrides the visibility status of the model,
providing one sets a drawing setup option
"drawing_layer_overrides_model" (or something) to YES.


can it be that that doesn't work *at all*
?

Two options seem to have some influence. There's the one you mentioned,
draw_layer_overrides_model, plus another option, ignore_model_layer_status. When
this is set to yes, you should be able to blank all the layers while in the model
but selectively unblank them in the drawing or drawing view so that you can see
your default datums, for example. It looks like they could be set to conflict and
cancel each other out. What if you set draw_layer_overrides_model to yes and
ignore_model_layer_status to no, seems like a conflict to me. So, I'd try first
setting them both to their defaults and see how that goes.

Be aware, though, that changing this in one drawing doesn't change it for all,
doesn't automatically save the changes beyond the drawing you are working on at
the time. Pro/e saves .dtl information in the drawing and going to
'File>Properties>Drawing options' just shows the options in the active drawing. To
go further, you have to manually open one of your .dtl files, edit it and save it
to disk. If you have several .dtl files and you wish them to behave consistently,
you have to do this to each of them. You can also do this without Pro/e running or
a drawing open by editing them with any ASCII editor. You just don't get the
description of the options that way. But you also don't run the risk of
inadvertently changing a drawing's detail file.
