i am using this photo software called picasa (http://picasa.com). when
in use, a thumbnail of the last image selected goes to a picture tray
area. a button click will hold image/s in the tray. another button
click clears them. this makes going back to select and use the same
    image very easy.

it seems it would be nice to have a SW feature tray which would
    operate the same way.

select a plane, part, sketch, feature ... and it goes to the tray.
need it for a your next action? click hold. all done? click clear.

navigating the design tree menu becomes more tedious as a part or
assembly grows. having to find your way amongst folders and features
that expand for no apparent reason makes matters worse.

2005 baby! They have added a new tree called the Task Pane. It wiill show
these thumbnails and descriptions you are talking about. It looks like it
will be very useful. I haven't used it yet but saw it in the rollout
    seminars.
Want to see what else is coming? Download the What's New for 2005 .pdf from
www.cswug.com and scroll to the bottom to download the file (2mb) HTH
