I move a bunch of files from our company to another company.

  1. Hi

When I move hundreds of SW-files from one company to another,
how can I force SW to take the referenced files from the new server /
    dirctory.

Can SW do this? Or do all files have to be corrected to the new path
    manually?

    Thanks
    Marcel

You might look at useing SW explorer.

try tools>options>system options>external references> select the box for
"search file locations for external references"

  4. How did you have to move them are they on a mapped drive accessable from
    both companies.
    It makes quite a difference.

If the drives can be mapped from both you should have moved them using
    SWExplorer.
The easiest thing would be to have the exact same directory structure and
map it to the origional drive letter. This way the last known location of
all the files are on "The Same" drive as far as the SW is concerned.

Another way woud be if you know that there are no files with identical names
like G:\SolidPart1.sldprt and G:\Parts\SolidPart1.sldprt. then you can add
all the model directories and sub directories to the search hierarchy in
your options. then once they are all opened and all the models are found.
you can remove the paths because everything is updated to the new drive.
