I means, when I work with cadence IC5141, I want to do a spectre
simulation, so I get a design variable like "a". I use parametric
analysis tool and sweep the "a". When I want to use calculator count
something about the "a", you know it's a variable, and the
calculator's special functions usually cann't hold.

You should use VAR("a") instead of just a.
