How to stack dim text alternate units when value is <>

Discussion in 'AutoCAD' started by James Maeding, Jul 17, 2003.

  1. Im sure this is an easy answer,
When I take a dimension that has alternate units text below the dim line, then grip the text and move it, it pops to the
    top.
No news here, this is a documented bug.
Anyone know how to set it back so the alt unit text is below the line?

I tried forcing in an "\X" to the text string using entmod but it does not help.
Problem is that if the value is <>, there is no manual way to get the \X in there. Its different when you hardcode a
string into the dimension, then \X works...
    thanks

Go to Format, Dimension Style, Modify, Alternate Units, and under Placement pick "under primary value". Then, set DIMTMOVE
to 2 and update your dimension(s). That should do it. However, when through, you may want to reset DIMTMOVE back to zero
    (0).

  3. I tried that, and maybe I missed something.
What happens is that the text moves to the right spot, but the dim line gets blanked out where the text is.
    Any thoughts?

This is a known problem with associative dimensions going way back. The
problem is that it does not reveal itself until you use DIMTAD.

As long as you do not grab the text grip, you can use alternate
dimension by responding with <>\X[]. You have to set the dimension to
    display alternate units as well.

You can also set this by setting the text suffix to \X[].

Once you have used the text grip in a dimension, nothing will make it
behave correctly. You will actually see the text grip change from the
middle-centre of the text to the middle of the dimension line.
