I have looked in the books and I find where it talks about adding text
to a symbol, but it's note very clear how we add the text. I want the
text to be editable. Or if you can tell me how to put a ballon in a
text string so it will be part of the text, not just a space that the
ballon can be placed into after the note is finished.

Also how do I add a symbol to a string of text.

    Thanks every one

So far, I know about adding variable text to a symbol, say a balloon or flagged
note. Such work is done in detailing mode. You use detailings sketcher to create
the symbol, then edit it to include text as a note. It can be any text, as long as
it is enclosed between backslashes. Then it will be possible to go to the Variable
Text page of Properties and edit this text 'field'. Generally, this is text that
will fit inside the symbol, a number or letter. With BOM balloons, it is something
    like \rpt_index\.
&symbol(symbol_name), so, if you had a symbol named BALLOON2 to show a quantity as
text to the right of the balloon, your syntax would be &symbol(balloon2).

Hi Frank i am not sure if this will help you out. but if you wanted to add a
    Datum Box to a text
string with a leader with this type of Datum [-A-] you would first go to
"Note" and type this @[-A-@] before or after your text string if you wish!
not sure how to add other symbols. hope this helps you out.

Placing the symbol in a string of text did not work. So I pulled out my
release 19 books on detailing, and digging through there I found what
you are talking about David. Per the books we use &sym(the symbol name)
not &symbol. But thanks you put me on the right track.

One other thing that messed me up. When I made my symbol I set the
insertion point at the center of the symbol. When it was added to the
text string it was sitting low. Took me a while, then I realized the
insertion point should be at the bottom of the text that is in the
symbol. I went back and redefined the symbol, set the insertion point
at the bottom and center of the symbol. Closed it, save it. When the
drawing refreshed after the symbol screen disappeared all the symbols I
had placed on the drawing corrected and the symbols are now lined up
    with the text.

    Thanks again for the help
I'm glad we have somewhere to go besides the Pro/E Help Desk, though
they do offer much help (our support just ran out last week)
