What is the proper way addressing a Draftsman? I'm trying to figure out the
    title and how it's spelled

    -Draftsman
    -Draughtsman
    -Drafter
    -Drafting Specialist
    -CAD Operator

Which are good and which are not?
What other titles can be applied?

Depends on where you live. In our neighborhood, "drafter" is the preferred
title. I tend to dislike "CAD Operator" because too many of those folks
know a little bit about computer software and nothing about drafting.

Thanks for the input. I also have another question. What is the difference
between a Draughtsman and a Draftsman? Why are they spelled differently?

Draughtsman has its origins in the Queen's English. Draftsman is the
Americanized version. They mean the same thing.

Due to that man Fowler, I believe, who decided to simplify the spelling of
English (in America, that is), so he went through the language and did
just that - removed what 'he' considered to be unnecessary letters.

Nothing whatsoever to do with the present President of the United States,
whatever anyone on this side of the Atlantic might think :))

Compliments of the season to you.

: I'd give a similar answer. IMO, a 'CAD operator' knows how to run
: AutoCad/Microstation or whatever application. He does not necessarily
    : know anything about 'drafting'.
    :
: I think the title would/should depend on what you expect from the
: person. A CAD Operator's duties would likely be limited to things
: requiring CAD skills but not necessarily much else. Maybe 'CAD
: Draftsman/Draughtsman'? I've never seen it used, but it may be
: appropriate. If their duties include any design, then maybe designer.
    :
: Based on my experience, as Paul suggested, many degreed CAD operators
: are not qualified to make drafting decisions. They can do some of the
: work, but need much guidance in making drafting decisions.
    :
: You'd be amazed at the looks I get from some people when I say
    : 'orthographic projection'. ;)

"Drafter" avoids the gender issue altogether.
