How do I save Outlook MSG emails as EML files so they can open properly in Thunderbird?

Thunderbird supports EML files, but Outlook MSG emails need proper conversion before import. Users often face problems with unreadable emails, missing attachments, or changed formatting after saving. A reliable MSG to EML process should keep the message body, sender details, date, and attachments suitable for Thunderbird access.

Thunderbird works well with EML files, but Outlook MSG files are a different format. So the main job is not just saving the file with another extension. The email must be converted in a way that Thunderbird can read the sender, date, subject, body and attachments properly.

    What I would check first:
    • Do not rename .msg to eml
    • Keep the original MSG folder as a backup.
    • Convert a few sample emails first
    • Open the output EML files in Thunderbird
    • Check sender name, sent date and attachments
For one or two emails, a manual method may be enough. For many MSG files, WholeClear MSG to EML Converter is a better option because it can export MSG emails into EML in bulk while keeping the main email details safe.

Try the free demo first and test the EML files in Thunderbird before converting everything.
