I have some old DBX mailbox files from a previous email setup and now I need to use them in PST format. I want a safe method that keeps emails readable and does not disturb the original message details.

Microsoft Outlook does not read Outlook Express DBX files as mailbox data. You need to first convert the DBX mailbox into PST. Once the PST is ready, you can import it in Outlook through the Import Export or Open Outlook Data File option.

    A safe workflow would be:

    • Copy all DBX files into a new folder.
    • Keep the original backup untouched.
    • Check important files, such as Inbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, Drafts.dbx, and custom folder DBX files.
    • Convert the DBX data into PST.
    • Open the PST in Outlook and verify emails, dates, attachments and folder names.
If the old Outlook Express setup is not available then try the trusted tool GainTools DBX to PST Converter Software; it is a perfect way to convert DBX mailbox data into Outlook supported PST format. You can preview emails before saving the PST when the backup is old business records or has important attachments.
Do a small demo run first. Convert 10 emails from each DBX folder and check the output in Outlook before processing the complete mailbox.
