I have a folder containing several hundred Outlook MSG files from an old project. I recently switched to Thunderbird and need a way to open and manage these emails there. My biggest concern is keeping all attachments, sender details, dates, and email content intact during the process. I tried a few manual methods, but they seem too slow for large batches. What is the easiest and safest way to convert MSG files into a format Thunderbird can read properly?

Several hundred MSG files will be painful to handle manually, especially if attachments and sender details matter. Thunderbird reads EML files more naturally, so converting MSG to EML is the safer route here.

For this kind of job, you can try TrustVare MSG to EML Converter as a soft option. It supports single and multiple MSG files, so the folder mode can help when you have a large old project folder. It also keeps attachments and basic email properties like To From CC and BCC during conversion. After export the EML files can be opened in Thunderbird and other EML supported clients.

One small tip: keep a backup copy of the original MSG folder before conversion. Also test 5–10 files first with the demo version, then convert the full batch if the output looks correct.

The manual method for handling multiple MSG files at once will become a hectic task, especially if attachments and sender details are important.

To view the contents of an MSG file in Thunderbird or other email clients. EML files are compatible with a wide range of email clients, so users must convert MSG file data to EML.
