    All,

I have an assembly that has a complex sub-assemby patterned many
times. Every time I select the pattern feature in the model tree, it
highlights every instance of that pattern on the screen. That process
    takes forever!

Is there a way to have pro/e not highlight on the screen what you
    select in the model tree?

    Thanx,

    Andy

This is an interesting question because it offers the opportunity to clarify several different things because different selection methods and their selection settings are set differently. For example, to unset selection highlighting from the model tree, click the Settings button above the model tree and uncheck Highlight Model. Thus, when you pick something in the Model Tree, it doesn't turn the component red in the display. To facilitate this "enhanced" functionality, you might want to also, from the same Model Tree menu, uncheck Preselect Highlighting. This will prevent the cyan highlighting of components and features as you move the mouse over the Model Tree items.

Similar setting apply to onscreen selections. To prevent onscreen Prehighlighting, do 'Edit>Select>Preferences' and uncheck the Preselect Highlighting box. Selection highlighting continues, no matter what.

    David,
I tried unchecking the Highlight Model, and I still get the red
highlighting of the parts in the assy. Since I got the same
suggestiogn from several sources, I am going to assume that it is a
bug with the build I am using.
For the pre-select highlighting, I have two mapkeys that toggle it on/
off. I find I need to turn it off when I'm working on large
    assemblies and drawings.

    Thank you for the information,
    Andy

Try adding this in your config file,
    highlight_geometry 'no'
