help with making a train-model, needed...

Hi NG.

I´m trying to make a model of a train and on the outside of the 2 side
surfaces, I need to make a red line parallel with the ground (railway
section). The rest of the sides are white and I want a black undercarriage.
For making the colors on the surface I want to make a slightly little cut
(0.1 mm) into the surface, parallel with the sides of the train.
But when I try to make a cut, Proe asks me for a datum plane and I choose
the front (end) of the train so that I can make a little cut, that allows me
to change the color of the train at this particular place...

My problem is now, inside the sketcher - I see the train from the front and
I have a curved surface/silhouette and I can´t make a parallel curve similar
to the one I´ve already made by using because I´m relatively new to Proe.
With a curve, parallel to the side-surface I guess I´ll be able to make a
cut 1 mm into the surface, so that I can change the color on the outside of
the train.

Any suggestions on that?

Besides that, I need a couple of key-words for making a solid spring (to be
placed for absorbing the vibrations on the wheel).... What would you advise
me to do/read at/find more information on this?

So, you want this cut just to have some other surfaces to assign colors to,
correct? As in most tasks with Pro/e, there's always a wealth of ways to do
anything. Rather than making a cut to make surfaces, I'd just make surfaces. (Very
thin cuts are problematical anyway, because of accuracy issues. Better not to buy
trouble.) Project curves onto the sides where you want the stripe. Pick a plane
down the middle, sketch a rectangular curve in the stripe outline, project to each
side. Then use the rectangular shape as the 4 sides of a boundary blend surface,
two parallel curves in one direction and the other two parallel curves for the
second direction. When you have the surface, assign it the red color for the
stripe. Or, you could take a single curve and use it for the trajectory of a swept
surface.

If you check Google groups Advanced group search, type in the name of
comp.cad.pro-engineer and 'spring', there have been several descriptions of
creating a spring over the last couple months that should pop up.
