fatal error message

One of my users received the following error message when opening any
drawing, drawings that were no problem yesterday:

"FATAL ERROR - OUT OF MEMORY - SHUTTING DOWN" (I confess this may not be
the exact text of the message).
And yes, ACAD then shuts down. Other programs open properly without memory
problems, such as Photoshop 7 opening a 1Mb .jpg file. So, I concluded it
was not a system error, but an ACAD error.

Sure enough, I fixed it by using the repair option on the ACAD install CD.
But, I had to again go in and configure all the user settings (BTW, I
thought this was saved in acad2000.cfg, but apparently not. Is there a way
to save these settings, perhaps in the user profile? and how do I save the
    user profile?)

Has anyone seen this error message before, and what was your experience with
    it?

    Thanks

As for the user profile, use the OPTIONS command, click on Profiles, create a new profile, configure everything how you want it (paths, settings, etc.) then export the profile to an ARG file. An ARG file is simply a Windows .REG file, which is an exported hive of the registry under HKCU\Software\Autodesk\blahblahlbah that can be imported elsewhere (same version of AutoCAD only). To invoke a profile at launch, modify your shortcut to append "/p profilename" or "/p profilename.arg" after the "acad.exe" target path entry.
