Explode sketch Overdefined

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Corey Scheich, Apr 5, 2004.

  1. I exploded an assembly with around 300 parts, and made some drawings off of
it. Since then there have been some parts that were replaced. Now the
explode sketch is haywire. The shape of everything looks correct but it is
all about 2' off of location. If I drag one of the lines it jumps the rest
of the sketch to where it belongs (for the most part) but when I let go of
the line it says that it created invalid geometry and drops everything back,
without giving me the option of leaving it broken. Now it seems that I may
have to redraw most if not all of the explode sketch quite a tedious task
the first time but the second time around it plain pisses me off. Has
anyone else run into a similar situation? How did you resolve it? Is
there a way to avoid this hassle? On any design there is inevitably going
to be changes why can't these sketches handle that?

  2. When I started to go back through and delete the old sketch piece by piece I
found the erroring culprit. It seems that there is a problem with using an
Axis to create a route line (not Temp Axis). I used an axis to represent
the center of a square cariage bolt cut out, then routed the line from the
hole to the axis this seems to have caused a zero length line that caused
the sketch to become S#!#. Once this was deleted the routing sketch worked
as expected. I submitted this to my VAR so hopefully it will soon be
    resolved.
