I am looking for a good DWG Viewer OCX that will allow me to zoom.
Perferably free but I am willing to pay. This will be a distributed
software throughout my company (ruffly 50 users). Does anyone have any
    suggestions.

  2. Volo View will not open AutoCAD 2004 format files...

It is unfortunate that nothing replaces Volo View as an OCX DWG viewer. I
understand Autodesk wants DWF be the viewer format, but there are so many
applications for a fast DWG viewer. And please do not suggest the DWG viewer
that comes with DWF Composer, it takes forever to launch...

    Nate,

Email me off list. I have an OCX right now that zooms, pans, and does plotting. Let me know what your looking for and what event extenders you'd want added.

  4. And please do not suggest the DWG viewer
I think it loads pretty fast for a LIGHT version of LT - the download is
    the killer =)

  5. Mike,

I don't get what you say. The DWG viewer is based on the AutoCAD engine,
that is why is takes forever to load. With Volo View, you could easyly embed
the control in an VB application and create a viewer of your own that could
    display a DWG real fast.

  6. I was being sarcastic Gilles =) The DWG Viewer is NOT BASED on the AutoCAD
engine - IT IS the AutoCAD engine! I also would be hesitant to use VoloView
because its life span is very, very short - last I heard, VV3 is the final
version to be released. So, any solution based on it will work now, but
when the time comes to upgrade to 2006 or 2007, you'll have to start all
over again. In short, the problem is there is no acceptable DWG file
viewing option available from Autodesk. They are pushing DWF which is not
    what everyone wants.

  7. In short, the problem is there is no acceptable DWG file
Exactly ! To me, DWF is fine in a lot of situations, but it is not the
solution to ALL needs. I have a customer who would need a custom DWG viewer,
Volo View would have been fine, but I just don't have the part I need to
build it. I tried a few third party viewer: they are slow, and no one can
display embeded raster images. Only Volo View was able to do it, but is a
    dead duck.

If someone from Autodesk is listening, here is my suggestion: get the engine
out of Volo View, get it up to date with the latest DWG format, and sell it
as an OCX at a bargain price, by download. The development would be kept to
a minimum, you would still get $$ from something you already have, and boy,
quite a lot of users, and developers, would be so happy !
