Determine DXF version without $acadver?

    Hi all,
hopefully anybody can help me with this:
I'm trying to determine the Version of dxf files. No problem as long as I can find the $ACADVER string. But sometimes we get dxf files which start like this:

    999
    BOCAD-3D Rev.17.600 9707.22
    0
    SECTION
    2
    ENTITIES
    999
    Ident-No. 101082
    0
    POLYLINE
    ...and so on

There is no $acadver included. Anyway, when opening them in AutoCAD, it reports "opening drawing from Rel. 12".
So is there another way to determine the dxf version? Or are all dxf without $acadver Rel. 12? My guess is the latter, but I need to know it for sure.

    TIA,
    Kathrin

  2. Hi, there should be an $ACADVER even if it was properly written by a
third-party package. But this is not alwys the case.
Solution => assume DXF Version is R12 or older.
    Regards
