convert text entities to polygons bad for CAM

A local waterjet cutter creates cutting files from DXF's. We want some letters & numbers cut, but the only conversion we can find in Autosketch is "convert text entities to polygons" - which turns smooth curves into a series of short straight lines [not what we're after].
Can AS convert text entities into something more sophisticated - like arcs or similar?

When you convert text to polygons in AutoSketch, the number of verticies per letter varies with how long your message is. A single letter converted may have over 100 verticies and be smooth. That same letter in a 10 word message will convert to a rough shape. If you happen to have access to Drafix, it does not have this problem.

Assuming the above poster is right, you could just convert one letter at a time to curves.
