I have created a complex linetype using a arc.shx and it works great except
at the ends and every node it is a straight line for approx 3mm. It will not
scale to fit the shape to the line. Is there any way to correct this?

  2. Hi Glenn,

As far as I can see the solution to this requires a rewrite of the AutoCAD
linetype engine. I heard a very strong rumour that they are addressing this
from the viewpoint of line display in 3D. Maybe they will go further and
fix it entirely and we will see the long awaited demise of the arcane
    "penup-pendown" line type definition process.

AutoLINE Linetype Manager by Autodsys will fix this problem by allowing blocks and text to be first in the linetype, and without any positive dashes in the linetype definition. It also will draw multiple parallel lines.

I’ve run into a similar issue with linetype scaling in AutoCAD, and I’d like to add a few thoughts if you don't mind. Ron. I’ve used AutoLINE before, and it does help resolve a lot of linetype scaling problems by allowing more flexibility with how blocks and text are placed in the linetype definition. However, I’ve also found that making sure there’s no "penup-pendown" sequence between elements can help reduce unexpected gaps, like the 3mm issue Glenn mentioned.

Another workaround I’ve used is adjusting the “scaled by” parameter in the linetype definition, which can sometimes help achieve better alignment, especially at the ends or the nodes where the linetype doesn’t scale as expected. You can also try adjusting the "Length" and "Angle" properties within the definition to tweak how the arc fits relative to the line.

It’s certainly a tricky part of AutoCAD's behavior, but I’ve seen some success with these tweaks. Just my two cents. Hope this helps!
