Can you insert blocks into autosketch 9? I am looking at upgrading from autocad 98 LT to autosketch 9 and I have a number of blocks created in LT that I would still like to use in Autosketch.

    Yes.....but not immediately.

As a block is a drawing, you will firstly have to open that drawing in
AutoSketch and then "Create Symbol". They are created in Symbol Libraries
and are not drawings as such and cannot be opened as separate
files.....unlike LT. A real bother when you want to edit it.

I would use the term upgrading rather loosly I'm afraid....it's more of a
downgrade in my opinion. AS works nothing like LT and you will very quickly
become frustrated. I can already hear you saying....."gosh, I wish I had
    upgraded to LT2004".

I use both LT2002 & QC/AS and find the latter to be a complete PITA.....I
wish I didn't have to use them.

    Actually symbols are pretty good
You can open symbol explorer and import a heap of drawings as symbols in one
    go
This creates a new symbol library.

    Not a PITA

    Try it

I almost always disagree with Ric about which program is better -
AutoSketch or AutoCAD. (I vote for AutoSketch)

However, if you are trained in AutoCAD, AutoSketch will be a struggle
for you. You will be much happier upgrading to the latest AutoCAD LT.

Before you make that “upgradeâ€, perhaps you’d consider jumping on ebay or something for a minute to buy an old copy of Autosketch (anything after v.6) and give it a run first. You should be able to find an old one for almost nothing, it's only a c-note new.

I'm telling you this because I work with AutoCad and Autosketch 40+ hours/week, and have been for years now. Though i don't always find sketch to be a PITA, most of the time I do. It's certainly no upgrade from anything with a command line. Try using AutoCAD without the command line for a while if you need a taste. I'd suggest waiting until you can swing the LT upgrade, or just staying with what you have.

When moving blocks from sketch to CAD, I do it a touch differently than Rick. I open all my blocks (for a single category) into one CAD drawing, and then copy-paste it into a sketch drawing. From there I create the “symbolsâ€, sketch’s underpowered version of the “blockâ€. Also, wave bye-bye to the attributes.

    Good luck.
