Behavior of Text height when changing drawing scale.

Discussion in 'AutoSketch' started by Claude Sylvain, Apr 11, 2004.

  1. Hello,

    - AutoSketch release 6

    - Seems that text height is expressed using page (output) coordonnates.
This make drawing text somewhat annoying, when drawing scale have to
be change; because, everytime scale change, the text height (appearing
in the "edit" toolbar) will change.

    - Is there a way to make text height expressed using actual (world)
coordonates (instead of page (output) coordonates) ?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hello

When you change the scale put a tick in the "Apple Scale Change box" and
make sure the right hand button next to this is selected and your text will
    remain the same size.

  3. Hello Paul,

First of all, thank you for your reply.

I tryed what you said to me to do, and this is working well.
But, all is ok for that point. The problem I have seems to be more a
    configuration problem.
Ok, let's try to explain (more precisely) again...

AutoSketch seems to work with text specified using page (output) size (rather
    than actual (world) size).
Let me show you an exemple. If we draw a text of 1mm height (by putting a "1"
in the "Text Height" edit box in "Edit" tool bar) inside a drawing using a
scale of 1 : 1 (output : world); and after that we change the scale of drawing
to 2 : 1; if we select the text we have previously drawn, the "Text Height"
edit box (in "Edit" tool bar), will show now "2 mm" (specified in page (output)
size) instead of "1 mm" (specified in actual (world) size).

Other entities, like "lines", have not the same behavior (when changing the
scale of a drawing), and will "always" show (in the edit tool bar) their size
using actual (world) coordonnates (that is, their "real" size).

So, here the question I have appear in my mind !
Is it possible to configure AutoSketch Release 6 to show the text size (in
"Text Height" edit box in "Edit" tool bar) using actual (world) coordonnates
instead of page (output) coordonnates ?

    Best regards,
    Claude.

    Good afternoon Claude;

Actually, both sets of coordinates prevail upon text height. The text
is linked to the printed output for legible text ideal for conveying
information. If you change scales, the text size scales proportionally as
    well.

If you're drawing a billboard which displays text at 5' sized letters
and you wish to reflect that in your drawing, then you will have to manually
calculate the height of the letters according to scale. It's the only
    solution that I'm aware of.

    Cheers,
    John

    Hello

AutoSketch cannot be configured for world output of text sizes.

Also I fail to see the point of this because if I want 1mm text I want it to
say 1mm and not 2mm. Scale should have nothing to do with text sizes,
otherwise a person would need to know the scale prior to working out how big
    the text was.
