    Hi

I'm still using AS V6.01, reverted back to it after a bad experience
    with V7.

I'm just wondering whether or not to go to V8.

Can anyone give me advantages / disadvantages with this move. I have
been using Drafix / Autosketch since 1991. The PC is P4 2.4 ghz,
    Windows XP pro.

    Thanks and regards

All I can suggest that V8 has over V7 is Clouds! You can now draw cloud
shapes quite easily, okay so there's allegedly more stability/xp
compatability, but since I run W2K it the XP thing doesn't bother me.

Version 6.01 is very stable and is my main program. I have version 8
but DWG transfer issues have kept me on 6.01 for most projects.

Why do you want to jump to version 8 from 6.01?

I didn't want to upgrade just for the sake of it - AS V6.01 works just
    fine.

I was wondering if any of the new features are worth it - for instance
I believe that Viewports, similar to Autocad, are available.

    Are there any other benefits?

    I don't need clouds - I can handle them easily in V6.01.

Viewports.....as in Paper Space.....are not available in AutoSketch. Nor
will AS support PS imported from ACAD.

A shame in my opinion, as Paper Space is an excellent concept.

There are no features that have wowed me into using 8 over 6. AS 8
reads in DWG files slightly better but mangles text when saved as a DWG.

It also does not read the the latest DWG format.

AS V6.01 is very good, but after upgrade to V8, I found it even better! Eg, V8 create smaller files, easy to e-mail.

stick with your old version, and get acad LT next as the viewports are great, and although sketch has some nice touches, once you get used to ACAD LT (1 week), you will find it a lot better.

It takes way more than 1 week to get accustomed to to AutoCAD LT.

Plan on taking an 8 week course at a local community college if you want
to do anything with AutoCAD LT.
