Annotation fonts and drawing templates

    Hi,

We're using SW2006, however we've had this problem for as long as I
    can remember.

We've set up a nice bunch of drawing templates, and saved them all in
    the

    \SolidWorks\data\

    directory as .slddrt files.

However, we can't seem to figure out how to save the annotations fonts
in the template, it all goes back to the defualt font.

With annotations fonts, I am referring to all font and arrow
definitions that take place under /options/document properties/font
annotations, being Note, Dimension, Detail etc.

So my question is: is it possibile in the year 2007 to save the fonts
used in a drawing template so that our engineers do not have to
manually go in and change the for each drawing?

Its driving me nuts. I've read that the templates actually do carry
the font and dimension definitions from drawing to drawing, but it
    simply doesn't work (for us).

Note, that it doesn't relate to fonts not being available on other
    computers.

    Any help much appreciated,

    Frederik

  2. My first thought is that maybe you are making the changes and then trying to
save the template, and maybe the template isn't saving? I know that I have
had trouble overwriting a block, so maybe you aren't actually getting it
saved. Annotation fonts should certainly stay with the document.

Also, make sure they are actually pulling the copy from where you think.
Could you be saving your changed files to a network location and the users
    are pulling a local copy?

I think you are missing one very important piece of information. A
slddrt file is not a drawing template file, that is the extension for
a drawing sheet format. The sheet format only contains the titleblock
stuff, not data stored in Tools\Options>Document Properties. A drawing
template, file extension drwdot, is the sheet format combined with the
    Document Properties settings.

To save the sheet format (slddrt file), File>Save Sheet Format
To save the drawing template (drwdot file), File>Save As and pick
Drawing Template from the Save As Type combo box.

I have been doing this exact thing for years, hope that helps.

  4. Hmm...
Are you saving the sheet format as well as the template, when you update
    the templates?

    Easy to miss.

    Hi Sam,

You're completly right, I totally missed that. I saved the sheet
formats and not the template itself.

As it has been bugging me for years, I really appreciate your fast
reply. It is not something I will put on my CV - but I hope that maybe
it can help other people out there :).

Once again, thank you very much for your quick responce.
