An Interview with Dave Ptak, President of SolidProfessor

Discussion in 'SolidWorks' started by Franco Folini, Jul 19, 2007.

  1. Hi all,
Almost all SolidWorks users know SolidProfessor, the company that
makes hi quality interactive video training.
I just published an interview with Dave Ptak, the President of
    SolidProfessor on the Novedge blog.
I asked Dave a few questions about the reasons of the growing
popularity of video training, the difference between live training and
video training, and more. You can read the complete interview on the
    Novedge blog:

"For example, we're currently working on a course on Advanced
Surfacing with Matt Lombard who is one of the most talented surfacing
designers out there. He's at the forefront of his craft and an expert
    with
    SolidWorks."

    ROTFLMFAO

I recently purchased Matt Lombards SolidWorks Bible and while it's
helpful it needs a lot of work. The SolidWorks Bible badly needs some
competition because it's the only book that is available on SolidWorks
that does a decent job. However, the SolidWorks Bible fails to
properly cover issues like properly using design intent and how to use
construction geometry to add design intent to sketches. I could go on
for a long time on how many subjects the SolidWorks Bibe does a poor
job covering but what's the point with no competition from any other
    author?

I've never seen any evidence that Matt Lombard is a surfacing expert
as Dave Ptak claims and this is based on Matt Lombards posts to
    comp.cad.solidworks.

I have seen evidence that Ed Eaton is a SolidWorks surfacing expert
based on his posts to comp.cad.solidworks and this is based on Ed
Eaton's SolidWorks World presentations that he makes available at the
company he works for website. Perhaps Ed Eaton is not available to
Dave Ptak which is too bad because Ed Eaton is far more qualified than
Matt Lombard is when it comes to understanding surfacing and it's
    limitations in SolidWorks.

I'm looking forward to seeing how good a job www.myigetit.com does on
SolidWork surfacing. I just finished the Advanced Part Surfacing
tutorials that SolidProfessor has and it's the first area that I'm
very disappointed with in SolidProfessor. I'm sure even Matt Lombard
could make the SolidProfessor surfacing section better because it
really sucked. Luckily the rest of SolidProfessor has been excellent.

Why are you looking for tutorials on Solidworks? You've been claiming
to be an expert for years?

  4. Remember how you asked "JB" questions about VX Joe788? Do you remember
that thread dick breath and what a silly little bitch you made out of
    yourself?

Aren't you conveniently forgetting the truth once again about what
"JB" has used for years since getting away from Solidworks

What did "JB" model Bottlebob's part in Joe788? Wasn't it VX not
    Solidworks.

"JB" has made it quite clear he's been away from Solidworks for
sometime. Do you think Solidworks might have changed quite a bit over
the years Joe788 or do you think Solidworks hasn't changed much?

Do you think "JB" might have returned to Solidworks because it's now
the standard and it's now a hybrid modeler just like "JB" claimed
Solidworks should have been from day one.

Do you think at all you silly little bitch? I thought not so perhaps
it's time for you to be a good little bitch and get on your knees and
do what you do best... suck some dick.

Holy shit, you're still talking about yourself in the third person!
    Wow!

Anyways, it sounds like you've confused me with somebody else, yet
again. Remember when you thought I was Joe Autodrill? Then you thought
I was some guy from a software company? Then you thought I was garyr?
It must be hard being crazy, paranoid, AND stupid.

I don't care that you've been 'trying' to use VX. You've still
claimed for years to be an expert on Solidworks, and all the things
"wrong" with it. I'd love to hear YOUR definition of "hybrid
modeler." Hopefully it's as hysterical as your method for selecting
    chains in Mastercam.

Your fascination with men sucking cock is blatant. At least we all
know who "rottnluv" really is now.

  6. jb is suffering from PTCLBS--post-traumatic cut-loose-bitch syndrome.

It's a well-know disorder/affect, commonly seen in convicts who were the
cell-block bitch, who then try to make others *their* bitch when they get
    out.
It's a pseudo mucho macho bullshit affect.

I think this all went, uh, down before you got here, when jb used to be my
    bitch.
    Long story.
Which is how I contracted B. coli.
    An even longer story.
And even longerer to get rid of.... goodgawd.

It took forever to get rid of *him*, cuz , well, no one else in the group
    would take him.
And certainly no one in the cadcam ngs.
I thought BD would have taken him f'sure, and I *begged* BD, but not even
    that prick would take jb.

But I finally did get rid of him, and he hasn't been the same since.
But at least he has stopped stalking me.

And it was all my fault.
I was so desperate to learn cadcam, I compromisd my morals, ethics, health,
and very sanity, and let jb blow me for some cadcam tutoring.

Now, a sharp pencil, calculator, and graph paper are just fukn Heaven.

And, I am, finally, B. coli free, altho I fear there are some permanent
side/after effects, which the docs are still examining.

Oh yeah, and teethmarks--man, those wee tough to explain away....

Who else on this forum has a SEVERE OCD disorder with gay sex?
Who else expressed the same opinion as JB regarding documentation
    today?
Who else on this forum doesn't actually own any CAD/CAM systems?
Who else on this forum obsesses about JB in the third person?

Is it possible that they are both the same person/thing/entity?

    TOP Guest

    Franco,

I guess I'm always a little leary of someone who starts a dialog with
a statement about a business plan.

I'm old fashioned and like to read a page or two documenting what
software is supposed to do, with sticky notes pasted in to mark my
place. Taking time for videos is not my style.

Maybe I'll have to make a business plan to document SW on paper if
that is possible. Wait. Matt just did that.

    Per the resident (self-styled & self-proclaimed) "expert":
    [
Even a tight ass like you should be smart enough to spend $25 on
    quality video training.

    [
I'll spend the $25 for the myigetit SolidWorks 2007 course and see
if that smokes your SolidWorks Bible as well. Based on what I have read here and
on Engineering Tips I get the feeling the myigetit SolidWorks course is going to
fucking blow your SolidWorks Bible away.

    [
For those on a budget they can try the $25 myigetit SolidWorks course.

    [
I will be starting the www.myigetit.com Solidworks course in the next
week or so. It's only $25 and they claim it's as good or better than
$600 I spent on the SolidProfessor Professional video course.
    ] - Thu, 19 Jul 2007 by jon_banquer

It's "as good or better" for "only $25" so he claims he spent $600 on
    the other instead?

"Look forward to that advanced surfacing course."

Since SolidProfessor falls apart when it comes to teaching surfacing
in Solidworks 2007 it's not going to be hard to make what they have
    now better!

Will this be yet another situation where there is really nothing else
available (The SolidWorks Bible has no competition) or is someone as
competent as Ed Eaton is when it comes to surfacing going to step up.

I guess only time will tell.

Anyone know if the Freeform Surface tool in SolidWorks 2008 will be
able to work on surfaces that don't have 4 sides?

    Nope.

    How about "degenerate"?
